Gina Betts was back from London and marvelous tales of her taking her son to the recent Summer Olympics. Son Kevin Conlon and his wife Marybeth were table side with her.
Seems husband Don opted to stay in California a couple more days. Seated in the smaller dining room was CCBFS&L Chair Robyn Conlon, who was a dinner widow for the evening. Robyn Conlon and Kevin and Marybeth Conlon Despite looking a little overwhelmed by the cheers, the ladies ( Tricia Besing, Nancy Carlson, Nancy Carter, Ashley Tripplehorn Hunt, Dee Dee Lee, Lynn McBee, Pat McEvoy, Kim Miller, Pam Perella and Ellen Winspear) handled the acclamations with grace. That’s when this very top-notch set turned Abacus into a pep rally with the two rooms competing for biggest rah’s.

Speaking of birthdays, the Jim and DeeDee LeeĪbacus dinner turned out to also be a birthday celebration of 10 Best Dressed DeeDee Lee‘s husband Jim, who turned 61. The nuptials are already slated for March 2. Then it was off to LA to celebrate his birthday and to surprise her with an engagement ring. Before popping the question, he flew to San Antonio to clear it with her folks. The bride-to-be is none other than Erin’s assistant, Brittany Jones. Erin was also thrilled about son Travis‘s engagement. Mathews went the other extreme in black with vintage Chanel jewelry from the ’60s. Chanel was represented by Kelli Ford in a white lace cocktail dress and Erin Erin Mathews and Russ Davis Since the crowd was so big, the gals probably didn’t even notice. It appeared that 10 Best Dressed Hall of Famer Lana Andrews and another guest not only looked terrific in the same cocktail dress. Lela Rose had a couple of standouts in the crowd. Looking around the v-e-r-y crowded cocktail reception, the fashion still managed to standout. Her Cowboys were playing the final pre-season game at Cowboys Stadium.
OK, so maybe CCBFSL Honorary Chair Gene Jones was absent, but she had a good excuse. Sorta hard to imagine such a turnout when you think the Rangers and Cowboys had games in Arlington and the Republicans were convening in Tampa, but there they all were. This year it was a crowd of 160+ RSVP-ed, “Yes, we’ll be there” to dinner chair Rachael Dedman‘s invite. Underwritten by Comerica, the annual dinner usually ha around 120 attend. Originally scheduled to be held at the Dallas Country Club, it was moved to Abacus. It was last Thursday’s Crystal Charity Ball Fashion Show & Luncheon (CCBFS&L) dinner for the Platinum Patrons. Don’t go thinking that Labor Day signaled the end of summer.
